The collapse of the Four Coalition (4C) is being seen as a victory primarily for Václav Klaus. The very creation of the coalition was, after all, a result of the failure of the Sarajevo "assassination" attempt against him in late 1997, and eliminating Klaus was one of the coalition's main goals. Those who stood by him through thick and thin will be amply rewarded if he returns as Premier or President, and his gradual ascent has attracted scores of new admirers who want to ingratiate themselves to the Professor. Businessmen like to say they aren't political, but the lists of those who attended Klaus' 60th birthday party and ODS's Christmas party tell a different story. Klaus' star is on the rise, at least domestically, and people who can benefit from political connections for deals, favors, information or legislative assistance are gravitating toward it.
