For years, the two main power structures in Czech politics were ODS and ČSSD, and the opposition agreement of 1998-2002 was an early effort by Václav Klaus and Miloš Zeman to defend the arrangement against would-be usurpers. With the arrival of Andrej Babiš in 2011, a third power center emerged, and ANO gradually displaced ČSSD with Zeman's help. Now it's a conglomeration of the advisers who were behind Bohuslav Sobotka, the upstarts from STAN and the sponsors of Pres. Petr Pavel who are marginalizing ODS. The glue holding these three disparate groups together, and adding new ones, is billionaire Jan Dobrovský. It's no coincidence that investigative reporter Sabina Slonková mentioned him as one of the three main people seen by Babiš's team as those "whispering" in Pavel's ear. If Babiš is planning an operation for either running Pavel out of politics or discrediting him, as Slonková reported, it's less about Pavel and more about attacking the power structure Dobrovský is building than the general public will ever know.
